The Railway Series is a series of books created and written by the Rev W Awdry, later his son Christopher. It features Steam Locomotive and Road vehicle characters working on the fictional Island of Sodor in England of the United Kingdom. They are the books that Thomas & Friends is based on, which aired 1984.
