Mavis is a privately-owned quarry diesel engine who works for the Ffarquhar Quarry Company, based at Ffarquhar Quarry. In the television series, she also works at the Sodor Slate Quarry. Her main job is to shunt trucks around the quarry, but she also takes occasional goods trains and does other temporary duties around the island when needed.
